How Do I Choose The Best Bicycle Saddle Bags?

Grab your touring bike and lets take a fun outdoor adventure. You have the destination but you just don’t know what type of bicycle saddle bags you’ll need. You need to know how far you’re traveling and how many nights, if more than one. How long is your trip? Will you travel a short distance and take your time over several days or really max out your daily miles on the bike? Finally, how much weight will you carry on your bicycle?

If you’re going on a short trip then you probably wont need large panniers that sit over the front and rear wheel. So if you’re traveling a short distance for only a day trip then you probably need smaller bags that don’t require an over the wheel rack to mount them. These include; behind the seat bags, handlebar bags, and under the top tube bags.

I would start by looking at behind the seat saddle bags. These are really easy to mount right under the seat and cause the least impact to your riding. Low wind resistance and they don’t impede your ability to steer or pedal the bike.

Handlebar bags on the other hand are also easy to mount but also add the advantage of easy access. Since they sit directly in front of you they can be accessed without dismounting the bike. Just be careful not to overfill your handlebar bag. Doing so will impede your ability to turn the bike quickly in case of emergency.

A great choice for small loads is a good under the top tube bag. This bag is very aerodynamic and light in weight. You’ll have just enough room to hold your essentials such as; cell phone, wallet, some bike tools, and maybe a bag of peanuts. Keep loads to a minimum to prevent the bag from impeding your pedaling.

If you plan on going for a multiple day trip over many miles then you need to carry a lot of weight safely. If you try to cram too much gear in your small day trip bags you’ll risk a crash because your weight will be too high on your bike. You need panniers or bicycle saddle bags that will solve all your problems.

These panniers will attach to racks that you mount over your front and rear tires. You can have up to 2 bicycle saddle bags on the front and rear bags totaling 4 bags altogether. Youll be able to now safely carry all the weight you need for your trip.

Riding a bike will keep you fit

There are many people out there (including me) who would love to lose a bit of that weight in time for any summer holidays. As well as this, if you are like me then I am sure when summer arrives you certainly do not want to be seen as a bit of a pale bloater in swimming shorts. I for one would at least like to eliminate the pig part of that sentence. So why not treat yourself to one of those bright shiny racing bikes.

The great thing is riding a bike is a great way to keep fit and even if you do feel great about yourself then you could still use it to tone up pretty much every muscle in the body. As I live in the South Downs a mountain bike is more suitable but I do love racing bikes and think they are brilliant for all kinds of fun activities.

ANother great thing about having a racing bike is that you can take part in a load of charity events that benefit not only yourself but many other people that you could raise money for which is a thing to be proud of doing. Getting one of these bikes could also help improve social lives as well. By meeting other people who are into the same thing as you it is surprising how many of the same hobbies you could have in common.
Of course once you have one of these fantastic bikes you are customise it in anyway you want ranging from bike pedals all the way too zipp wheels.

As well as all of this there is no limit on how you can alter the bike so you can have it in exactly the way you want it too peform.

There Are Three Main Tours. The Giro Has Started

There are three big tours in the cycling calendar. The best known is the Tour De France of course and at the end of the season there is the Vuelta de España. The Giro opens the season for the big tours. It started with a Team Time Trial which is unusual and equally it has given us an early leader that is unusual, Mark Cavendish. Cavendish, generally considered to be the fastest sprinter in the World, had the team helping him and the fact he was their first member to cross the line meant he took the Maglia Rosa.

Surprisingly enough he then lost to Petacchi in the next stage sprint and is now looking for revenge in one of the later sprint stages but Petacchi repeated the stage victory today and has taken the Pink Jersey. Why wasn’t Cavendish involved in the sprint today? A small consideration of a few nicely placed mountains took him out of the equation.

The Giro is a three week tour and like all tours each day has something different for various types of riders. The advent of the first minor mountain stage will take the jersey off Pettacchi’s back as total time taken is taken into account and he will lose time. There will be a couple of time trials for the specialists in that and the mountains will sort out the big winners although one of the favourites Van De Velde won’t be there as he fell and broke two ribs today.

As for Lance Armstrong, he twittered that he is feeling good yesterday after the first time trial but would it be too much to expect him to come back and start winning at his age?

You need to put in a lot of training to even hope to get close to these guys if you have ever imagined trying to do what they make look so easy. For those who have never tried cycling up these mountains it may be difficult to appreciate the dedication required, the pain and the difficulty involved in getting over them. In order to get the best out of yourself you could do worse than starting this programme **LINK**. If you want something a little more challenging then consider that these guys do hundreds of miles every day and try to do it yourself. For making sure that you know where you are, your speed, distance and so much more you should get one of these Garmin Monitors too

DH Mountain Biking: a Short Introduction

Roam

Downhill (DH) Mountain Biking is a style of mountain biking in which a rider either for enjoyment, or in a time trialled event, race down a course of varying difficulty against other bike riders.  The format of a DH MTB race follows a similar setup to that of skiing.

History

The first ever downhill event that took place resulted in a win by Alan Bonds taking place on the now infamous Repack Road so called as hub bearings would overheat and degrade the grease during downhill races.  This was back in Oct ‘76 and downhill has changed a lot since that date.  DH Events now regularly take place across the world on a weekly basis particularly in the mountainous areas of nations such as the UK or in the summer at disused ski resorts in countries such as France and Italy.  These are by no means the only places though, and the DH World Cup is one of mountain bikes most popular events each yearly.

Downhill Bikes

As well as the obvious differences in this discipline of mountain bike riding, there are a number of big changes in the bikes and equipment utilised by the riders.  A downhill MTB Frame will be far more specialised that the normal hardtail mountain bike frame you or I used, and will usually have a much more rugged and durable full suspension mountain bike frame.  The reasoning for this is the more extreme terrain that a DH mountain bike will be subjected to.  The trade off of having a full suspension bike, which is made to a much stronger standard than a normal mountain bike is the weight.  While a standard MTB would be lower than thirty pounds in weight, DH bikes can to go over 40 pounds.  This weight is now however being reduced~coming down~reducing~.  Other big differences in the bikes can include the use of disc brakes, a high travel suspension fork (five-fix inches)  and differing frame shape.

Pads & Protection

Pads and protection is definitely required when competing in the world of DH…. just watch a few of videos and you will soon realise that falls, crashes and injuries are common place and a certain drawback this event offers.  Full body protection, face mask helmets like the ones used in motocross are a must otherwise you will not be allowed on the course or to take part.

Why to Use an Electric Bicycle?

It is sometimes very hard to drive your car to the nearby market place and hunt for a parking space to get a small thing like a milk bottle or say a bread packet. Instead, you or your son/daughter could go by the electric bicycle and get such thing and come back within less than the time it would take you to return home by your car. Instead of using your car for which, the electric bicycle can be used for local errands. The students enjoying riding to the college, to the tennis court and some people even use electric bicycle to go to work. Around town or parks, you and your children can even go for a joy ride.

An electric bicycle or a folding electric bike can really do most of your trips as well as or even faster than your car. If you calculate the cost of the fuel and time you spend doing small errands on daily basis, except going on long drive for a picnic during the week-ends, you will surely come to the conclusion that the electric bikes are cheaper, convenient, reliable and faster than your car because the electric bicycles requires less space to store and can pass through between two parallel cars during the traffic jams. Moreover it runs on a battery which has to be charged after about 60-70 kms.

For all those shorter distance commutes, electric bicycles are the best options for your car, bus or train ride.
